Deluxe: How Luxury Lost its Luster

I am currently reading Deluxe, thanks to Jonathan who discovered it and passed it along. If your into fashion I definitely recommend reading it. You will learn everything from the history of fashion to now. Also, how the pass years have molded and shaped fashion into what is today. You get just the perfect amount of history about some of the most famous and wanted fashion labels around today. Sadly, the book states how luxury is being lost and isn’t what it used to be. Haute Couture and Ready to Wear clothing has been faded out due to accessories such as perfume, and handbags being created and sold to the masses. These famous labels now make more money off their accessories then their clothing. Understanding the state of current economy you understand why people just can’t afford the expensive items anymore. We are label whores. Face it most of us probably wouldn’t care about a Louis Vuitton bag without the signature monogram or a Chanel purse without the signature chain and double C’s. I just hope that we can still hold on to some kind of luxury in fashion because that’s what is the driving force of fashion. We all want the most expensive item we can get our paws on obviously. But sadly, our future generations are going to miss out on the Haute Couture that put Fashion in existence, especially with all the first designers fading out such as Valentino and Yves Saint Laurent.
