The Royal Wedding:Prince William and Kate Middleton

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you know that the royal wedding is today and here at Filthy I want to give you all the details and special trivia that I’ve compiled from reading over countless blogs.

What She Wore

The dress, which we all have been guessing about was created by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen here is what she had to say about the dress.”It has been the experience of a lifetime to work with Catherine Middleton to create her wedding dress, and I have enjoyed every moment of it.It was such an incredible honour to be asked, and I am so proud of what we and the Alexander McQueen team have created. I am delighted that the dress represents the best of British craftsmanship. Alexander McQueen’s designs are all about bringing contrasts together to create startling and beautiful clothes and I hope that by marrying traditional fabrics and lacework, with a modern structure and design we have created a beautiful dress for Catherine on her wedding day.”It was hand-cut with English and French Chantilly lace (from a variety of sources making color matching particularly challenging), and ivory and white satin gazar were used throughout. The bodice and skirt featured lace flowers roses, thistles, daffodils and shamrocks, each of which were individually handmade and appliqued. The back was finished with 58 gazar and organza covered buttons fastened by Rouleau loops, while the underskirt was made of silk tulle trimmed with Cluny lace, and the skirt was made with white satin gazar arches and pleated.Middleton’s veil was ivory silk tulle with hand-embroidered flowers and her train was about 10 feet long. Burton was inside Westminster Abbey to help adjust the train just as Kate was about to walk down the 300 foot aisle carrying her bouquet, a mix of myrtle, lily-of-the-valley, sweet William, and hyacinth.Read more: Royal Wedding: Kate Middleton Wore Alexander McQueen to Marry Prince William | The Fashion Spot http://www.thefashionspot.com/runway-news/news/167099-royal-wedding-kate-middleton-wore-alexander-mcqueen-to-marry-prince-william#ixzz1KvrK1ed0

The tiara was Cartier and belonged to the Queen. King George bought it for the Queen Mother in 1936; the Queen Mother gave it to the Queen on her 18th birthday. Her earrings were by Robinson Pelham. The earrings were made to match her tiara and featured a diamond set drop and pave set diamond suspended in the center. The earrings were a gift from her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton.Rumor is that Kate did her own makeup, according to the Daily Mail, “Kate wanted to look like herself on her wedding day. She told salon owner Richard Ward, ‘William must recognize me by the time I get to the altar.'” Her nails were painted by Marina Sandoval, manicurist extraordinaire, in Bourjois‘ “Rose Lounge” no 28 (mixed with a little bit of Essie 423 Allure)

“Prince William, a Royal Air Force officer who serves as a search-and-rescue pilot, wore a cap and mounted officer dress uniform, befitting his honorary appointment in the Royal Army. He is commissioned in all three armed services and was made honorary colonel of the Irish Guards last year. His choice of uniform was considered a diplomatic move in light of the queen’s scheduled visit to Ireland next month.”-USA Today

The Bridesmaids

Pippa Middleton,Kate’s sister was her maid of honor and also wore Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton. I was super surprised she wore white but she looked dropped dead amazing.”The official wedding website describes the dress as “a heavy, ivory satin-based crepe, with a cowl front and with the same button detail and lace trims as the Bride’s dress.”The younger ladies had dresses designed by Nicki Macfarlane to echo the Bride’s dress. “The four dresses were hand-made by Ms. Macfarlane and her daughter Charlotte Macfarlane at their homes in Wiltshire and Kent.”Even the shoes were specially designed for Pippa and the other attendants, by Devon-based Rainbow Club. “The classic Mary Jane style shoes are made from satin and finished with a Swarovski crystal buckle.”The bouquets carried by the bridesmaids were designed and made by Shane Connolly, and “the ivy and lily-of-the-valley hair wreaths worn by the younger Bridesmaids were influenced by the Bride’s mother’s own headdress at her wedding in 1981. The bouquets held by the Bridesmaids replicate the flowers used in the Bride’s bouquet, and they incorporate lily-of-the-valley, sweet William and hyacinth.”-OK Magazine

The Cake

“We’ve used Catherine’s list of the ‘language of flowers,” Cairns added. “The ‘language of flowers’ is something that was used in Victorian times to express, in a coded way, emotions that couldn’t easily or openly be expressed in words but [could be] conveyed in flowers. So all the flowers have meanings.”
