Left to Right:Poppy Delevigne,Nicole Richie,Erin Sanders,Brigitte Bardot,Gwen Stefani

Have they ever gone out of style? But seriously, this retro print is here to stay.Whether you consider your style to be edgy or feminine, adding this statement pattern to your ensemble will without a doubt

take your look to an ultra-chic level! Get inspired by these spot on looks!

Poppy Delevigne:Believe it or not those simply adorable polka dot pants are from Topshop! I still need to make a trip up to the one at the Grove, but not gonna lie, I need to mentally prepare for that.Anyways, I am obsessed with how Poppy styled these pants with a simple white button-down and fitted blue blazer. This look is really so simple yet it makes such a statement. The trick is to allow your favorite polka dot piece to take center stage by pairing it with simple pieces that accentuate the classic print.*Filthy Likes

Nicole Richie: Nicole is rocking a definite statement-worthy Enza Costa polka dot top.Oversize polka dots are a little more risky to wear but in this case balancing them with a slim pair of leather pants will help create a flattering silhouette.Polka dots and leather=my obsession.Try pairing your favorite, with a simple pair of leather shorts and a oversized floppy hat like Nicole for a look that’s both boho yet edgy.Filthy Likes*

Erin Sanders-Erin Sanders is wearing a blue polka dot baby doll dress by Natalia Kaut (styled by the lovely Miss Jazmin Whitley).I am totally loving the 60′s kind of vibe that this dress gives off. Jazmin balanced the sweetness of this polka dot dress with a sultry pair of thigh high boots. It is the perfect mix of sweet yet sexy-loves it.Erin looks simply adorable in this frock from head to toe. This spring, you should definitely be on the lookout for a go-to polka dot dress like this that you can throw on. It is perfect when you are having one of those ” I don’t know what to wear” moments.*Filthy Likes

Brigitte Bardot-That pair of polka dot pants that she wore in the 60′s are still totally on trend today-yes, she is that ahmazing. Brigitte mastered the whole sexy-yet-cute look by always balancing her feminine outfits with that to-die-for sex hair.Once again, you can’t go wrong with a pair of polka dot crop pants.A great tip is to spend a lil extra and take a pair your find to a tailor to have them fitted to you( I still need to do this will all my jeans #shortyproblems). You will not believe the difference it will make.Channel your inner Bardot and rock a teased bouffant and a simple cat-eye to give this classic pattern some real attention.*Filthy Likes

Gwen Stefani-I have been lusting for a pair of polka-dot print jeggings since I saw Gwen rockin this pair by Paige Denim.Once again Gwen set the trend with polka-dot print jeans ( I sweat she was the first person I saw rocking them)Can you say swoon-fest!? Gwen went total femme and styled these chic Polka Dot Verdugo jeggings in Faded Black with a girly Kelly Wearstler Rio Obsidium jacket in Magenta.Replace your everyday jeans with a pair of these, it will help refresh your look. The trick is to allow the polka dots to be the center of attention and only style them with neutral colors. If you want to get risky you can take a note from Gwen and opt for a bright color against the polka-dots just be sure that your polka dots are in a simple color like black and white.* Filthy Likes

What I Wore

Sunglasses:Vintage
Top: Urban Outfitters
Shorts: H&M
Denim Button-Down-Ruche
Watch:Michael Kors
Sneaker Wedges:Bucco

I am a huge Clueless devotee and for years I have been on the hunt for an ahmazing Clueless tee,and after a long search, I found this one at Urban Outfitters. I originally really wanted one they had awhile ago that said ” You are a Virgin who can’t drive” but unfortunately it sold out before I could get my paws on it (bummer:( ).This one is still pretty cool but definitely not the best quality(which is why you should get a Hips and Hair tee). I am still having a major love affair with denim so I opted for pairing my Clueless tee with a denim button-down which I kept open. The awesome thing about wearing a denim button-down in this way is you can wear it in the place of a cardigan OR you can wrap it around your waist and channel your inner 90′s grunge girl. The leather shorts are from H&M and they serve as an amazing closet staple(everyone should own a pair).I had to give my shorts legs a lift, so I wore my sneaker wedges that I am now a huge fan of.I completed the look, with a vintage pair of cat eye sunglasses I snagged at the Rose Bowl Flea Market a few years ago.Do you love it?

90′s Trends That Are Making A Major Comeback

3 Mar

90s vibe #nastygal #minkpinkIf you know me, then you know that I am obsessed with the 90′s.Like any other decade, trends of their time are bound be repeated but right now there are so many 90′s trends coming back that it only proves that we are so bored with the 00′s that we have to live vicariously through 90′s with our fashion. Not gonna lie though,I am pretty excited to bring back a few of these trends we all grew up wearing(at least the cool kids). If you are going to start rockin one of these trends again, I recommend incorporating 90′s pieces it with items that are hot right now like maxi skirts or leather leggings/pants.

Get Inspired

Platform Sneakers

Hanna Beth of What She Wore rockin Spice Girl style platform sneakers and our ADDICTIONS Tank by Hips and Hair.

Thanks to the Spice Girls in the 90′s,sneaker platforms instantly make us think of GIRL POWER.I am so so excited this shoe trend is making a comeback! Now  you may disagree with me and think that those shoes should be left in the 90′s, but just remember to thank me when you wear them and your stems look longer and your feet aren’t killing you. Now you don’t have to go balls to the walls and actually wear the “Spice Girl” style, instead opt for a cool pair of Jeffrey Campbell sneaker platforms like these worn by Miley Cyrus.

Overalls

When I think of overalls,I immediately am reminded of Alex Mack and her snapback hat (that’s next)or Clarissa Explains it all.Overalls are so 90′s,and what I am loving about their revamp is that I have been seeing leather ones which are pretty swoon worthy. This piece of clothing can easily go from cool to not  in a hot second so I definitely recommend getting inspiration on how to incorporate this piece into your day to day wardrobe on Pinterest on in fashion mags or right here on Filthy:). Right now I am lustin over these leather ones from Threadsence. The trick is to make them more sophisticated then the tomboy ones from the 90′s.

Snapback Hats

I am not a huge supporter of this trend, but if you style it right, this fad could look pretty bad ass.I have noticed designers have been incorporating the animal print trend into snapbacks to give them more a fashionable flair and that make this trend a lil more fab to me.This also goes along with the sporty meets posh look I talked about in my last post so you can find a lil more inspiration there as well.

fuckyeahugly90sclothes: (Submitted by zizzerzazzerzuzz) I’m really, truly on the fence with this one. It’s pure ’90s, but it’s so pure it’s amazing. @zizzerzazzerzuzz, I tip my hat to you for this and the hooker submission. A+!

Nicole Richie Obey Hat and Studded Chucks! This outfit is so me haha

Fanny Pack

My gma used to rock a fanny in 95′ complete with a shit ton of keychains and now 18 years later I get why.You feel so free! Don’t get me wrong I love dressing up and wearing my Rebecca Minkoff but having a fanny doesn’t weigh you down is pretty sweet thing. When my boyfriend and I went to San Fran a few years ago he brought a one that he got from a magazine,it was special edition by Andre the Street Artist. I wore it one day put all my shit in and never took that thing off the entire trip, it was awesome.

Not a Rihanna fan but she is rockin the fanny pack pretty nicely.

Wearing my favorite fanny on my 25th.

Fuzzy Sweater/Cardigan

Yes these textured babies of the 90′s are super hot right now.

Filthy Tip:I love mixing the texture with studs and very feminine blouses.Add Leather pants to up the edginess.

1990s Alicia Silverstone

Fuzzy sweater. Would you wear it?Kate, you look fabulous. Take that fuzzy sweater off!

Even Kate wore a gorgeous one for a quick change at her wedding.

Backpacks As Purses

Cher: Been shopping with Dr. Suess?
Dionne: Well at least I wouldn’t skin a collie to make my back pack.
Cher: It’s faux.

Enough said.

Wish I could afford one of by the Row,but probably would shit my pants to walk around wearing a 55,000 backpack!

What I Wore

Hat: Brixton (actually is my bf’s)

Top:Threadsence

Leather Leggings:Threadsence

Jacket:Coffee Shop/Similar Style

Sunglasses: Vintage Liz Claiborne

Fanny Pack:Urban Outfitters

Shoes:Minnetonka

I was lucky enough to spend Valentine’s Day with my bf of 6 years ( yes we have been together forever and a day)at my favorite place-Disneyland. Although we do have passes,I still treasure every singe time I am able to drag my bf there for a few hours. It was the perf Dland day,we got there early and made it on 4 rides in 3 hours which is some kind of record, I am sure. Also did I mention we rode the best rides there-Indiana Jones, Space Mountain,Haunted Mansion and Pirates. I had to pull a photo opp in front of the Haunted Mansion because it is so fricken cool. I stole my bf’s beanie to make this outfit look a bit more sporty:).

I am obsessed with those leggings from Threadsence I wore. Not only are they badass and super cute, they are also very comfortable-perfect for a Dland day. Also,my leopard print Minnetonkas are such a must have. They go with everything AND they are super chic. I am so obsessed with the Sporty meets Chic ( I am sure that is obvi right now) and I definitely urge you guys to give it a try!

Get the Look:Sporty Meets Chic

13 Feb

Like Ferris said “Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” This ahmazing quote couldn’t be more true when it comes to our present age, we live in a world that works at a fast pace, meaning people depend on us to juggle a million things at once and on top of it, we somehow must find time for ourselves(gym time?).Time is so precious and if we are going to be running around all day it is always nice to feel cute while doing it.This brings me to a trend I see sweeping the fashion scene that I would like to share with you guys -the “Sporty Meets Chic” look.Ladies, you are going to love that this on the radar.Basically, you can go from the gym to dinner with the girls by simply adding a leather jacket and a comfy beanie to your gym attire(leggings and an oversized shirt-perfect).Don’t even worry about a shoe change, because guess what?Sneakers are being accepted as more than just a shoe to wear to the gym.For example, styling a pair of Nikes sneaks with a pair of leather leggings and a crisp blazer or throwing on a beanie with a military-esque trench coat and fitted patterned pants is totally hot right now. The trick is to create the perfect marriage of, in Spice Girl terms, Sporty and Posh Spice. You want to look super laid back yet ultra-stylish at the same time. Also,if you do come from the gym definitely freshen up-but that is obvi.Get excited to become comfortable AND stylish at the same time with less outfit changes throughout the day..loves it.

Warning: Just because sweatpants have the ability to look cute doesn’t mean you can abuse it:) Remember if you are going to wear something sporty you have to balance it with something chic or you will look like a hungover sorority girl that just rolled out of bed..not cute.

Sincerely Jules has been killing it lately with the “Sporty-Meets-Chic” look. I love how she paired an effortlessly cool camo jacket (super hot right now) with a pair of bad-ass Adidas. It is so simple yet so fashion-forward at the same time. I definitely recommend going on her blog for style insp.

Even if you aren’t really going to the gym..you can still look like you burned a few cals(in the cutest way possible). Simple pair a leather jacket ( they instantly make almost every outfit look ahmazing) with a pair of leggings.Complete the look with a pair of sneakers;maybe invest in a cool pair that double not only as your workout go to’s but also as an everyday shoe you can throw on with almost anything.

Letterman jackets are going to be HUGE soon..mark my words.

Leather leggings+converse=so chic.

Filthy’s Favorite High School Chick Flick Movies

23 Jan

As I write this I am listening to TLC on Pandora because if you know me I LOVE 90′s music and girl bands, plus I thought it would be the perfect music to listen to while I blog about my favorite Chick Flicks. These are the movies that have really influenced my fashion style and also serve as great sources of mindless entertainment for me.The best Chick Flicks were made in 90′s(hands down) although there are a few on the list that were the best of their decade that were just too good to pass up.These movies consist of usually a couple of things-great 90′s fashion and bitchy girls. So why don’t we begin.

10 Things I Hate About You

Who could forget the first time we really fell in love with Heath Ledger-especially the scene where he serenades Julie Stiles on the football field or “Alex Mack ‘s” dad forcing her to put on a pregnancy belly to feel what it would be like to be a teen mom.Not to mention, Joseph Gordon Levitt being an absolute cutie and wanting to do just about anything to win Larissa Oleynik’heart. This flick doesn’t necessarily have a crew of bitchy cheerleaders but instead Julie Stiles carried this movie as “the biggest bitch we couldn’t help but root for”.

Outfit that defined

Bianca’s “party” outfit was the highlight for us,I mean not only is she rocking one of those twisty updo’s that we all tried in the 90′s but she went balls to the walls with that bright pink tulle skirt and I honestly love it!

The quote we will never forget

I hate the way you talk to me,

and the way you cut your hair.

I hate the way you drive my car,

I hate it when you stare.

I hate your big dumb combat boots

and the way you read my mind.

I hate you so much it makes me sick,

it even makes me rhyme.

I hate the way you’re always right,

I hate it when you lie.

I hate it when you make me laugh,

even worse when you make me cry.

I hate it when you’re not around,

and the fact that you didn’t call.

But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you,
not even close…

not even a little bit…

not even at all..

Grease

I remember my gma( out of all people) introducing me to this movie for the first time when I was around maybe 8 or 9 and all I remember is how obsessed I was with it.Not only is it one of the best musicals( in my opinion),but the Pink Ladies set the bar as the coolest bitches to take over the screen before anyone else.I also loved that there was a “makeover” scene where Sandy goes from sweet girl to bad ass to win the heart of John Travolta. Now that I think about it, I think many 90′s High School Chick Flicks emulated the model of Grease.

Outfit that Defined

Leather pants were never the same after this.

Olivia Newton-John had to be sewn into her trousers at the end of the film as they were so tight. They were put on in the morning and she was not allowed to take them off or go to the restroom while they were on, as the crew would have to waste time sewing them back on( pretty intense).

The quote we will never forget

She’s All That

Freddy Prinze Jr. made the perfect eye candy for this “must see” 90′s chick flick and what girl didn’t want to be Rachael Leigh Cook post her babe makeover?! This is one of those feel-good movies that instantly takes me back to that time. I mean how can we forget that random prom scene where everyone is dancing to Fatboy Slim with Usher as the DJ.. ah too good.

     Outfit that Defined

down-Rachael_Leigh_Cook-She's_All_That-02Obviously had to be “the red dress” there was nothing more perfect then her walking down the stairs to Sixpence None the Richer singing “Kiss Me”.Such an ahamzing scene.

The quote we will never forget

Taylor Vaughan: You didn’t think you became popular for real, did you? Oh, you did? That’s so sweet.

The Craft

This movie is high school bitches at their best! I went between this movie and Jawbreaker for this spot as they are both involved some pretty craycray high school chicks. But in the end, I had to pick the Craft for its huge cult following. Fairuza Balk was also such a badass in the movie and actually scared me even to this day.

Outfit that Defined

Crosses, skulls and anything dark is really everything right now and I see this movie as a great representation of that style. I love the simple white button down, deep red lips, and knee high combo that they wore to school-the topping-on-the-cake is those rosary necklaces. I absolutely love cross necklaces.

The quote we will never forget

Heathers

This movie is like the Craft in that it  is pretty dark for a HS flick but I really loved it for its ability to get pretty deep on the issue of mental illness. This movie was definitely the “Mean Girls” of its time( which happened to be the 80′s) and who could forget a young Christian Slater as one crazy very unstable kid.I will say the only thing that really annoyed me in this movie is the way he talked..anyone agree?

The quote we will never forget

Outfit that Defined

Too much 80′s fashion goodness in this movie, but I must say, I love Veronica’s off the shoulder gray sweater paired with that black dress ( so 80′s with is long straps),and that br0och is so perfect.

Legally Blonde

This movie couldn’t have came out at a better time in my life (7th grade). My friends and I called ourselves the “Bop Squad” and we basically got off on acting like “dumb blondes” even though only one of us was blondes-ah the things you do in middle school. That being said, when this movie came out we felt like it spoke to us,we were OBSESSED.Although it isn’t necessarily a high school chick flick more like a college one I guess, it still had to be added to the list for its amazing fashion moments and overall goodness.

The quotes we will never forget (couldn’t pick just one here)

Outfit that defined

Elle rocking a leather skirt suit, what more could I ask for.

Never Been Kissed

Not only is this one of my FAVE Drew Barrymore movies,Mona May who is one of my favorite Costume Designers, did the wardrobe for this movie and it is ahmazing. This chick flick plays with the idea of what if you could redo your time in high school, face the pack of bitches ( which usually come in threes and fours) once and forall and get your first kiss.If you haven’t seen it get on that!

The quote we will never forget

Outfit that Defined

This was a hard one as there are so many fun outfits in this movie, but I had to go with this one.I actually remember having a black feathered duster jacket that was similar to this style except not nearly as out there and it was so of that time.Such a glorious outfit!

Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion

I’ll never forget the first time I watched this movie,I was in fifth grade and it was my first “rate R” movie and I thought it was so cool we got to watch it.It is so funny how so many things go over your head when you are little. When I watched this movie again when I was older, I was able to appreciate it that much more.As I get to the end of my list, I realized that a lot of these amazing chick flicks have a ton of similarities. For instance, right now, Romy and Michelle is similar to Never Been Kissed with the idea of going back high school and reliving it in a totally different way.The bitchy pregnant ladies in this movie are also similar to the Jessica Alba crew in Never Been Kissed. My point being that “the stereotypical” high school movies although are definitely dramatized every high school had that pack of bitches.

The quote that defined

This movie has sooo many good quotes that it was hard to choose but I couldn’t pass up this one..image

Outfits that defined

As if I could choose something different..ps.Mona May did the costumes in this as well!

Look like they might have even inspired this..

Mean Girls

Thank you to Tina Fey for making this movie! There are very few good “high school” based movies that came/have come out of the 2000′s, so when I finally saw this it was such relief because I was actually old enough to appreciate the trueness of this movie. I also think my generation of girls were excited to have a movie that reflected our time instead of the 90′s for instance. If we are going to remember Lindsay Lohan for doing anything good, it is this movie.Rachel McAdams also shocked us(after the Notebook too) with her ability to be a really good bitch!

The quote we will never forget

Again so many good ones to choose from but..

Outfit that defined

Cady Heron’s Halloween Costume because how can she not know..

.

Clueless

As if you didn’t expect this to be my number one!I could talk all day about how Clueless has had such impact on my love for fashion and how it is much more than just a fabulous movie but really I think this chick flick was just so ahead of its time in so many ways (fashion, quotes) that this is why it has become a cult film as of late.In case you haven’t seen Wildfox did a whole look book based on the movie and Calvin Klein even brought back the famous “cher dress” because it is that good.

The quote we will never forget

Outfit that defined

I narrowed it down to two because it was really hard to choose.

That sheer button down was so brilliant over that sweater and printed high-waist skirt;while that Alaia dress paired with that feathered coat ( Never Been Kissed connection?) to me just defined Cher so wonderfully!

Although I haven’t been lucky enough to travel to too many places, I am fairly certain I live in one of the most beautiful towns in the world-Dana Point.A little beach city an hour south of LA,Dana Point has been my home since I was 4.Lucky for me my dad loved surfing soo much that he moved his whole family an hour away from his work ( he works in LA) so we can grow up in this beautiful place( I honestly thank GOD he did). Today was an absolute gorgeous day and since I’ve been wanting to get myself in the habit of doing more outfit posts, I thought it was only fitting to start today with my lunch date with my gpa and mom at Dana Point Harbor.

My sister just purchased this cozy skull sweater from Topshop in Nordstrom the other day and I couldn’t wait to steal it:) It is a little itchy but it is worth the pain.I am currently obsessed with my new sneaker wedges by Bucco. Can we just talk about how ahmazing the sneaker wedge invention was! If you remember a few posts back I questioned if I would rock them but now I couldn’t imagine life without them. Not only are they super comfortable they also make me look taller which equals skinny legs.As much as I LOVE fashion, I just don’t have the feet for heels so finding a shoe like this that works with any outfit is a dream. I definitely recommend snagging a pair:)

Hope you get inspired.

Filthy’s Best Dressed at the Golden Globes 2013

13 Jan

The Best Dressed List

70th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals: Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen

Kate might be my best dressed of the night as his sleek McQueen gown fits her beautifully.I especially love the detail around her neck, the subtle-yet-sexy peek of cleavage and how perfectly that belt cinches her waist. To top it off, her sleek-but-natural hair adds the perfect amount of fierceness to her overall look.

rachel

Rachel Weiz in Louis Vuitton

Rachel chose to go vintage meets modern in this sheer black polka dot dress by Louis Vuitton. The peek-a-boo leaves just enough to the imagination while her classic waves perfectly finished off her ultra-glam look.

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors - 2013 Golden Globes

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors

What I love most about Emily’s look is how unexpected it was. This Michael Kors is an absolute jaw-dropper with its sexy peek-a-boo slits and gorgeous brocade detail. I especially love her fuchsia Lorraine Schwartz earrings for their ability to compliment this golden gown in the greatest of ways.It was fashion risk gone right-bravo Emily!

eva longoria golden globes 2013

Eva Longoria in Emilio Pucci

Eva Longoria brought the drama in this gothic style Emilio Pucci gown.It looks like she wanted to pull a lil Angelina with the high slit but she got the legs for it so she can rock it(but I will say no one will ever top Angelina!). The lace detail adds such a feminine feel while the high slit screams vixen.

Megan Fox in Armani

This blush Armani dressed hugged Megan’s curvaceous body in all the right places.I love that Megan is showing off her post-baby curves and I really think that is what made this dress look so ahmazing on her (anyone else thinks she looks like a lil like Jolie). Perhaps taking a note from Emily,Megan’s fuchsia Loraine Schwartz earrings were the perf accent piece to this dazzling strapless number.

julianne hough ryan seacrest golden globes 2013 red carpet 01

Julianne Hough in Marchesa

You can never ever ever go wrong in Marchesa, that being said, this princess gown looked gorge on Julianne. I only wish she went with a more feminine hair do like a ballerina bun to compliment this dreamy dress .But regardless I think she looked like an absolute dream!

20121230-074358.jpgNo one can deny the greatness that is the holidays. There is nothing more depressing then after holiday blues which are right around the corner(yay).Until then,I plan on relishing the last bit of the holidays left.High on my wish list this year was the Rebecca
Minkoff Continental Studded Wallet.Being that Christmas presents aren’t really a surprise anymore, I took it upon myself to actually pick out and order my new baby.Keep in my mind last year my Christmas gift was new tires (that is when you know you are old) so this year I had to lock down a good present.I skipped the Bloomingdales website and went straight to my trusty ebay and found this gem- which I immediately had to snatch up.Not only did I get a pretty sweet deal, the seller had it literally in my mailbox on Christmas morning.Ah thank you Ebay.

I was itching to wear sequin shorts for Christmas and happily found a pair in my sister’s drawer. You wouldn’t believe my excitement when I was able to actually fit into those babies with tights on(Forever21 shorts are apparently made for preteens).Paired with a simple button down with a studded collar and a pair of sneaker wedges given to me by my sissy; my Christmas outfit was instantly taken to another level. Those sequin shorts added the perfect touch of festive glamour that I wanted.
